Boomboxes On Parade

Brian Dunn | February 24th, 2010

Our good friend Lyle Owerko, the man (of Boombox and Boombox II fame) behind the Boombox Project, is showing his late 70’s and early 80’s wares at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the Rewind Remix Replay: Design, Music & Everyday Experience exhibit. He was kind enough to shoot over some pics from the opening. Take a gander; some awesomely retro sound machines to be sure!

Alex Pardee is Bloody Awesome And You Can Be Too!

Brian Dunn | February 23rd, 2010

Our man with Zero Friends (we’re not being harsh here, that’s just the way he likes it) is up to some gory shenanigans. Stephen Reedy and the Zero Friends cats put together a fun, but brutally bloody, one minute commercial for their company with very red and very wet results.

From there,  Stephen and Jenn Horvath have remixed the video with a completely different feel to it, which leads me to the point of this post. Alex wants to give you glorious Zero Friends prizes just so he can pit you against your friends, until there’s only one standing.

Ok it’s not quite like that, but they are running a remix contest and you really should enter… details here.

Robert Williams Is Still The Man

Brian Dunn | February 23rd, 2010
The don of the “Low Brow” art movement, (Robert Williams) brought his recent body of work to the Cal State Northridge gallery with some of the most awe-inspiring work I’ve seen in forever. I’m not sure I have enough words of praise in my vocabulary to adorn the man properly so I won’t sit here and gush, but rather let the work speak for itself. As per usual, the good folks at Arrested Motion have their peeps on the beat and got some great shots, to which we’ve posted here.

Si Scott, Nanami Cowdroy, Tara McPherson: Now available to drink from!

Click for art hailing from the UK has a pretty good thing going on. They’ve amassed a great collection of artists ( somewhat like your favorite skin company that shall remain nameless – oh ok, it’s US) and are adapting the art to unique and original applications – like tea cups.  These cats have done a super job with the printing on the cups and saucers resulting in the awesome specimens you see before you. They’ve got options from at least 3 GelaSkins alumnus, Tara McPherson, Nanami Cowdroy and Si Scott and really, who doesn’t want artist designed china?! Picture 5
